I'm on a bit of a nostalgia trip at the moment - currently playing the original Deus Ex, and before that, Thief II: The Metal Age. Might go for Quake/Quake 2 next.

Here's a guide to running a server:

http://dmq.geeky.cc/Servers.aspx

That depends on you having a computer with constant internet access. The other option is to hire a DMC/DMQ server - there's quite a few companies that rent out game servers, and they should take care of most of the setting up and so on for you.

To make maps: you can get Valve Hammer editor 3 for free, although there are other programs that some people swear are better. For skins and weapons, I have no idea... anyone?

I enjoy an occasional Guinness, or an Old Speckled Hen. I also brew my own stuff; mainly mead (basically honey wine). Got a grapefruit flavoured mead which should be ready for drinking shortly - impossible to tell how these things are going to turn out but hopefully it'll be drinkable!

I remember when I first started playing DMC and I thought American Zombie was the best DMC player EVER, even if he was a bit of an arrogant twot. Took me a few months to realise that he really wasn't that great.

Otherwise, why don't you create a standalone logo for DMQ:S? ;D

First thing that came to mind: crowbar

What about -=[BaF]bb=-?

Also, what was the name of that player who was supposedly South's sister? Was she in -=[BaF]=- too?

Would a DMQ:S subforum on here be handy? Or have you already got something set up for that?

Hi Pun, it's been a while... hope to see you in game soon  (I'm coincidence btw)

Hmm, well I've added an off-topic section, but there isn't really a lot to go in it.

More reorganisation coming soon (possibly)...

Good to see you back Zapper - and a welcome return for dmc-central.

I don't suppose there's anything remaining of the forums, e.g. a MySQL backup or such? Would be great to see some of the old posts again.

Happy Christmas everyone! May all your festive gifts be as welcome as a 90-rocket backpack on DM6!

EDIT: I nearly forgot - DMC server admins - why don't you run DMQ?  Is it because you want to stay traditional, or something else?

For me, it's the lack of Linux support - my host runs on Linux, and I've been thinking of changing, but  just haven't quite got round to it. I'd love to run DMQ, though.

It's been a while since I played Q3, so remind me - what do armour shards do? Are they just like tiny little mini armourettes?

A handicap system could be cool too; maybe something dynamic where the damage you take is increased once you get above a certain K:D ratio. Although that might not work if you get two good players on one server who are about equally matched, but much better than everyone else.

I had many fun games on the old East Coast DMQ. Thanks for doing this!

#16 Re: Deathmatch Classic » New -=[BaF]=- server » 2010-11-12 18:25:52

Rob

Cool! Glad to see the return of -=[BaF]=-; was always a fun server. I've been looking into putting up a DMQ server but I don't think it'll work on e-frag, as (as far as I know) there isn't a DMQ version for Linux, which is what e-frag use.

Are you in touch with Simon at all? I was thinking of asking him if he had a backup of the old dmc-central forums; it would be a shame to lose all that dmc history, and I might be able to create a new forum with all the old posts.

I'm happy to help in any way I can - I've got you on my Steam Friends list (I'm in as Coincidence or Flumm Blipp) so ask away.

Glad you like it! I've taken some of the sillier maps off, but got some even more ridiculous ones ready to be deployed...

Any suggestions for maps you'd like to see? I quite like Steeler (it's part of the series with ztndm3 and so on) but not too keen on the textures. But all input welcomed!
