DMQ3?

Hey guys

What is the difference between DMQ2 and DMQ3 ? is it just the shards or are there other upgrades ?

Also, is the placement of shards on maps going to be uniform across servers for DMQ3 ?

Thx eej.

DMQ3 is still in Beta, and mfrx made a few changes other than the armor shards.  If you go to the geeky site and hunt around you can see some of the other things that ended up in the request bin.

Well, no; because admins add them into the maps with stripper files.  We make those specific to our servers and it adds to their uniqueness.  This way people can add more or less (or none) of them as to their individual liking.

Re: DMQ3?

These are all of the differences so far...

Various runes:

  • Frag - extra points per kill.  (ctf_frag)

  • Regen - health and armour rise over time.  (ctf_regen)

  • Crowbar - crowbar does infinite damage.  (ctf_crowbar)

  • Haste - weapons cycle at double speed.  (ctf_cycle)

  • Cloak - partial invisiblity.  (ctf_cloak)

  • Super Hook - hook goes faster and does more damage.  (ctf_hook)

  • Protection - half damage.  (ctf_protect)

  • Low Gravity - jump higher, less fall damage.  (ctf_lowgrav)

  • Vampire - 1 hp for every 2 points of damage that you do.  (ctf_vamp)

  • Booby Trap - explode if you are killed.  (ctf_trap)

I have added the entity names in brackets - you could try adding them using stripper - no idea how well it would work though ;-)

Tricks mode (no damage, infinite ammo - good for trick maps).

Race mode (still a bit buggy)

Fixed mode names so they all use the same format: "DMQ3 : <mode>".

Added cvar: maptextallowed.  If set to 1, game_text entities will be displayed.

Compiles and runs in Linux.  Not compatible with adminmod yet so you can't vote and adminmod commands may crash server.

Added armour shards (armour max = 250).

Can change mode from team and CTF without needing a map change.

Re: DMQ3?

Ok thx for the infon Carbon

I think for the moment i'll keep the BaF sever running on DMQ2 until DMQ3 is finalised so to speak, or at least until there is an excepted standard for the mod.

The only issue i can foresee possibly happening with shard placement different across servers, is when you are dueling, when it is paramount that you know where all the items on a map are, or maybe i'm being a little pedantic here wink as there are'nt too many dueling matches around these days.

regards......eej

Re: DMQ3?

Oh I dunno... I'd say running DMQ3 would be a benefit.  DMQ3 Beta 5 is a stable release, and is wonderful... Another advantage would be you can be part of testing it out and offering feedback (because mfrx LOVES FEEDBACK).

Also, I doubt there will be any push for admins to share our respective stripper files,  because it would mean unlimited access to our super-secret cool kids club map hax.

Re: DMQ3?

If people want em, I might add someone elses stripper files to the ffa and ctf servers.  I would never change anything on the duel server though becuase it's taken me far too long to learn the maps - not going to waste that ;-)

There is not a great deal of difference between 2 & 3 in standard modes - really just bug fixes.

Re: DMQ3?

I really don't have any problem sharing stripper files either.  If anyone wants mine they can just ask. big_smile
I'll edit out the parts where I banged on the keys aimlessly just to see what happens.
